Embark on an exhilarating journey to Annapurna Base Camp via Poon Hill from this carefully prepared itinerary from Trek Me Nepal. An adventure of a lifetime awaits you as you set out to the Annapurna mountains. This is a breathtaking expedition that combines two of Nepal’s stunning treks. In a matter of two weeks, you will experience a perfect blend of lower-elevation trekking and awe-inspiring vistas of the high Himalayas. Get ready to immerse in the rich tapestry of Nepal’s vibrant cultures and pristine landscapes.

The journey begins from the charming town of Pokhara, dominated by lakes and the gateway to the Annapurna Region. As you venture into the heart of the Annapurna mountains, you’ll trek through picturesque villages of Nayapul, Ulleri, and Ghodepani. Taking a glimpse into rural Nepalese life, you will keep going on the trail through lush rhododendron forests and terraced farmlands that seem surreal and impossible to exist on the steep hillsides. You will wonder how such paddies are even farmed!

The first part of the journey is arriving at the vantage point of Poon Hill. Here you will witness a spectacular sunrise — the views of which will get etched into your memory forever. You will see the first rays of dawn kiss the snow-capped peaks, and watch in inspiration as the Himalayan giants are bathed in alpenglow. The panorama that you will see in this moment will seem to stretch from horizon to horizon. An almost-surreal showcase or a parade with towering peaks — that’s a sight to behold and remember forever! Peaks such as Annapurna II (7,937m), Dhaulagiri (8,167m), and Machhapuchhre (6,997m) are, but just a few among the many peaks visible on this sunrise spectacle. And this is just the beginning!

The further you carry on towards Annapurna Base Camp, the more rapidly the landscape transforms. Traversing along narrow gorges carved by glacial rivers, crossing swaying suspension bridges, and ascending through changing vegetation zones are some of the activities you will undertake during this section of the trek. Each new day brings new challenges and new rewards, and will test your endurance before giving you a sense of achievement. The trail then passes through the heartland of the Gurung people, known for their hospitality. Here you’ll have a chance to experience their unique culture firsthand, stay in cosy lodges, and share meals with other trekkers and locals alike.

The higher you climb, the thinner the air grows, and more rugged the terrain becomes. Nearing Annapurna Base Camp itself, you will feel physically and mentally exhausted, but you have to understand that it’s just a part of the journey. Once you reach there, the experience is utterly rewarding as you’ll suddenly find yourself surrounded in a natural amphitheatre-like location, made up of towering peaks everywhere. You will not particularly miss seeing the massive south face of Annapurna I (8,091m) looming above. The grand sense of accomplishment and awe gained by reaching here is comparable to only rare things in life. And as you stand speechless in the shadow of these Himalayan giants, you will realise the greatness of Nature and gain a new sense of appreciation for the Natural order of the world.

This trek is however, not without its challenges. The high altitude can affect even seasoned trekkers, and the weather can become unpredictable many times. Long days of trekking through diverse landscapes will test your stamina; but with proper preparation you can make the challenges more rewarding. Later as you return, you’ll understand that it is more than just a trek; it’s a transformative experience that will test you but eventually inspire you to the core — at the very top of the world.
