Kathmandu

In this exciting 10-day program from Trek Me Nepal, you will hardly contain your enthusiasm as you begin your journey to the Everest region. From the moment when you land in Kathmandu, your anticipation will only increase in Kathmandu’s vibrant energy and rich culture.

This journey begins with a thrilling early-morning flight to the tarmac in Lukla, perched precariously on the mountainside. As the small plane glides through the mountains, you’ll be instantly awestruck by the sheer dominance of the Himalayan giants. When you land at the famous Tenzing-Hillary Airport, which is a sort of adventure in itself, you’ll see the Sherpa villages, a sight that is just a glimpse of what’s to come.

Once out of the airport and after a relaxed refreshment, you will set foot on the trail to Phakding. Suddenly immersed in a world of wonder, you won’t believe the sights that surround you. The crisp mountain air fills your lungs as you trek through lush pine forests and cross suspension bridges spanning gushing rivers down below. Each step that you take will feel like you’re walking inside a beautiful dream.

The prominent destination in this trekking program is arriving in Namche Bazaar. When you come to this mountain village, it’s like entering a movie set in a different realm. This bustling Sherpa village is nestled in a natural amphitheatre-like shape within towering peaks. With vibrance of life and colours everywhere, you will spend a day here acclimatising, exploring the narrow streets, and marvelling at the blend of traditional Sherpa culture and modern amenities. The excitement of first-time trekkers and stories of seasoned mountaineers will fill you with inspiration and fuel you for the journey ahead to Tengboche.

The trek to Tengboche is equally breathtaking – literally and figuratively! Literally, because the air gets thinner and you will have to take small steps to go anywhere; and figuratively, because you wouldn’t have imagined nature to be this beautiful on the planet! As you gradually ascend through forests of rhododendron and juniper, each turn in the path reveals new, awe-inspiring vistas. And then suddenly, one of the turns, you will see it there – your first clear view of Mount Everest. The hairs on the back of your hand will arise as you gaze upon the world’s highest peak, flanked by the imposing Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Nuptse! It’s a moment of beauty!

Arriving at Tengboche Monastery, perched high in the mountains, you will feel like a sanctuary in tandem with the heavens. The cosmic grandeur it seems to carry will be immediately felt, even from the distance. As seen in countless movies, this monastery sits quietly in the foreground. Intricate carvings on the walls, powerful chants of the monks, and fluttering prayer flags everywhere create an atmosphere of profound peace. The sense of spirituality that you find here will find yourself reflecting on the adventure you’re in. Needless to say, you will feel a deep connection to these mountains and appreciate Nature in this grand solitude.

On your way back, you’ll visit a monastery and become acquainted with the folklore rife with tales of Yeti. You’ll be further amazed by the skills of your guides and porters, and their knowledge of the land. As you fly back to Kathmandu, you’ll be filled with a mix of emotions — a sense of accomplishment plus longing to see more of this magical realm. More than just a hiking trip, this trek is a journey of self-discovery and getting connected with nature in its raw inspiring form. Later, when you are back at home, you will quietly understand that you have left a little part of yourself in these majestic mountains, and someday you will return for more.

  •   Experience breathtaking views of Mount Everest and its surrounding peaks from multiple viewpoints along the trek.
  •   Explore traditional Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar and Khumjung; see their way of life, and their unique culture.
  •   Enjoy incredible panoramic views of the Himalayas, including iconic peaks of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Makalu, and Nuptse.
  •   Visit the serene Tengboche Monastery, with its unique atmosphere and spiritual vibes with magnificent mountains in the backdrop.
  •   You might even spot native wildlife such as the elusive red panda and Himalayan thār, as you trek through Sagarmatha National Park.
  •   Gain an experience of acclimatisation at high altitudes, and while doing so, ascend to the beautiful Everest View Hotel.
  •   Witness spectacular sunrise and sunset views over the Himalayas, with golden rays creating dramatic views of the snow-capped peaks.
  •   Enjoy a scenic and thrilling flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and back, with incomparable aerial views of the stunning landscapes

This journey begins with a thrilling early-morning flight to the tarmac in Lukla, perched precariously on the mountainside

Once you arrive at Kathmandu International Airport, you’ll be received by our staff and transported to your hotel. After some rest and refreshments, we’ll provide you a brief about your upcoming Everest Panorama trek. You will be shown the trekking permits and essential gears if any, and at night you will have a welcome dinner of Nepali cuisine before heading on your epic mountain adventure the following day.

You will begin after dawn to catch an early flight to Lukla. The flight is scenic and thrilling, as you traverse above towering peaks. After about 30 minutes, you will land at the narrow airstrip of the mountainous airport, renowned for its challenging descent. At Lukla you will have breakfast in the presence of mighty mountains, and finally begin the long-awaited trek! As you cross Dudhkoshi river, the trail gets lined by lush and beautiful forests. You will walk for around four hours crossing suspension bridges and passing through Sherpa villages before stopping for the night in a lodge in Phakding. The beautiful trail and scenic mountains will contribute to your excitement on the first night as you begin the epic trek to Everest.

As you begin the trek from Phakding, you will be facing a long day of trek to Namche Bazaar, the destination for today. The actual trekking duration is about seven hours with ample amount of stopovers. The trail is scenic, and at this altitude you will even pass through lush rhododendron forests. The excitement will push you further today where you’ll cross high-altitude suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Bridge. After crossing Monjo, your trail enters Sagarmatha National Park with breathtaking views of valleys and mountains. After a quick permits-check, you will begin today’s final stretch to Namche located at 3,440 metres. The climb is steep, but every inch of the ascent to Namche Bazaar is worth it.

As you reach Namche, you will be filled with amazement to have reached this close to the gigantic mountains. You will immediately feel at home in this vibrant old town filled with markets, cafes, lodges, and shops bustling with tourists and locals alike. This is where you will rest for the day soaking in hot water and enjoying high-speed Internet connection. Nearby, you can explore monasteries and stupas if you feel energetic and not worn out by the day’s trek. And if the day is clear, you may even catch your first glimpse of some iconic peaks of Everest.

Sleeping this close to mountains has its own benefits — like having a breakfast with sumptuous views of the giant peaks. As your excitement builds up for the day, you will realise that it’s no more walking for the day. All you have to do is relax and enjoy the day in this mountain village with very short hikes for some acclimatisation. Today is also your chance to catch some breath and let your body adjust to the thinner air at this altitude. During the day you can hike up to Hotel Everest View, for jaw-dropping glimpses of Mt. Everest itself. And if time provides you can wander around the shops, check into a bakery or a cafe, and indulge in a treat. Just make sure you do not miss the golden sun setting against the peaks – bringing you a feeling of inspiration and awe! You will suddenly realise that you are in the heart of the Everest region – and your adventure is just halfway through.

As you begin your ascent towards the famous Tengboche village, the anticipation keeps building further. While the air gets thinner and the winding trails might appear less inviting, you should keep your head up and look towards the sky to witness majestic towering peaks. You will see the beautiful Ama Dablam, Everest, Thamsherku, and other mountains — each one with a grandeur of its own.

Approaching closer to Tengboche, you will feel the air swirling with energy. And the views – your heart will be racing, eyes will be gazing, with the regal icy peaks looming right above you! This  once-in-a-lifetime moment will be more satisfying with forests of pine and rhododendron gracefully stretching as far as the eyes can see! And at dusk when you step into Tengboche at 3,867 metres, you’ll feel the ancient walls, witness monks wearing maroon robes, and feel their echoing chants. Colourful prayer flags will appear fluttering in the breeze as night falls in this isolated village with mighty mountains in its backyard. As you spend the night here before beginning your descent tomorrow morning, you will begin to feel a strong connection with this place under the mountains.

Leaving Tengboche behind, you descend early with a newly discovered inspiration. Trekking down through the winding paths, you will be attracted by the comforts of Namche Bazaar, where you can once again take a hot shower, have a selection of food, and a good sleep. This anticipation will keep you on the trail filled with lush valleys and picturesque villages. Along the way you will even cross some suspension bridges high above gushing rivers. As you keep trekking down, you will enter rhododendron forests and later in the day you will rejoice at the sight of Namche — civilization at last! A sense of relief overpowers you in the evening as you soak your feet in hot water — and you will begin to reflect on the arduous but beautiful journey you just undertook.

Today is the day you bid farewell to Namche Bazaar. Lacing up your boots with a mixed feeling of joy and humility, you will take the first step towards ending your epic journey. The scenic descent towards Lukla is at times made more beautiful with the presence of the raging Dudhkoshi River. The trail winds down further with steep slopes through forests and valleys before reaching Phakding — where you’ll have one more lunch at the foothills of the mighty Himalayas.

Trekking on from Phakding, you will finally arrive at Lukla after a leisurely trek of some hours. Here at Lukla, you’ll see the settlements, the shops, the cafes, the little lanes and the narrow airstrip. The people moving here and there going about their own business will make for a happy sight as you eagerly look forward to your flight back to Kathmandu.

The flight from Lukla is a scenic one, with views of the peaks you just saw from the ground, and some more. A stream of memories will fill you as you land in Kathmandu. The bustling city will be quite a sight in itself as you drive in the traffic jam towards your hotel. In the afternoon you can take a soothing massage or simply wander the market hunting for souvenirs and those “hashish-rickshaw” t-shirts that everyone returning from Nepal buys. And in the evening, you will join in a farewell dinner, sharing stories and once again, being grateful for the soul-enriching journey you just took to Everest region.

A day sightseeing tour is a good thing to have, after returning from an arduous journey in the mountainous terrain. There are plenty of places to go in this capital city full of heritage. Although it does not seem like it at first, mainly due to the chaotic traffic and the hullabaloo, there are gems of places hidden inside the valley. Take a vehicle of your choice and stay in the comfort of air-conditioning while you visit places of luxury and pampering. You can go to a premium spa to relieve the muscles and relax, have the much-deserved lunch at a five-star hotel, or simply indulge in shopping. You can also customise a day-trip with us.

After breakfast or depending upon your flight schedule we will transfer you to the airport. As your plane takes off from the runway in Kathmandu, your journey to Nepal comes to an end for this time — until you decide to visit again for some memorable and soul-searching trip in the Himalayas.
