The Trishuli River is the most popular place for water rafting in Nepal. It offers beautiful views, exciting rapids, and is very easy to reach from Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan. It is the perfect water adventure for both beginners and families.
The Journey: The rafting trip is 38 kilometers long. It starts at Baireni or Charaudi and ends at Gaighat.
Exciting Rapids: You will paddle through famous water rapids like the Snail’s Nose, Monkey Rapid, and Cotton Pony.
A Balanced Trip: This river is great for anyone wanting a shorter adventure without constant scary waves. You can even enjoy calm fishing breaks during the quiet parts of the river.
The river changes a lot depending on the time of year. Use this quick seasonal guide to plan your trip safely:
| Season | Months | Difficulty Level (Grade) | What to Expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Autumn (Best Time) | September to November | Grade 2 to Grade 3 | Perfect water levels, great weather, and predictable waves. Highly recommended. |
| Spring (Great Time) | March to May | Grade 2 | Warm weather and gentle water currents. Ideal for absolute beginners. |
| Monsoon (Dangerous) | June to August | Grade 3+ (Very High) | The river gets massive, fast, and dangerous. High risk. Not recommended for beginners. |
| Winter (Cold) | December to February | Grade 2 (Calm) | Water levels are very low, and the weather and water are uncomfortably cold. |
White water rafting has real risks. Regular travel insurance will not protect you. Make sure your policy specifically covers these points:
Adventure Sports Coverage: Your policy must explicitly say it covers white water rafting.
Emergency Medical Costs: It must pay for any medical treatment or injuries that happen during the activity.
Helicopter Rescue (Evacuation): It must cover fast rescue services, including helicopters, if you get hurt in remote areas of the river.
Trip Cancellation: It should refund your trip costs if you have to cancel suddenly due to an unexpected illness or injury.
Baggage and Gear Protection: It should cover your personal items, like expensive waterproof cameras, against loss or theft.
To stay safe and have fun on the Trishuli River, always follow these basic rules:
Wear Your Safety Gear: Keep your life jacket and helmet locked tightly at all times while on the water. Do not take them off.
Keep Inside the Boat: Keep your hands and feet inside the raft when going through rough water to avoid hitting hidden rocks.
Watch for Hazards: Stay alert and watch out for big rocks, sudden drops, and swirling water currents.
Talk to Your Guide: Tell your rafting guide about any health problems, injuries, or if you do not know how to swim before the boat leaves the shore.
