Mount Manaslu (8,163m) is the world's eighth highest peak and one of the most beautiful in Nepal. A trek in the Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley is an exhilarating journey through Nepal's remote and solitary regions. This is a  challenging trek demanding stamina, willpower, and a strength of determination. In this carefully-crafted program from Trek Me Nepal, you will venture into the very mountains, encircling Mt. Manaslu, and exploring the sacred hidden valley of Tsum.

Your trek begins from the subtropical lowlands of Nepal along winding trails beside Budhi Gandaki river. Trekking through lush forests and terraced fields, you will keep ascending for several days, and witness before your own eyes, the landscape transform dramatically. From the subtropics to the alpine in a matter of a few days. Breathtaking vistas of snow-capped peaks will be your guiding stars along the way. Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal, and the majestic Manaslu itself, will be a source of inspiration and beauty throughout your trek. Going through diverse terrains of dense rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, and high-altitude pastures, you will be constantly exposed to the isolated natural beauty of Manaslu Region.

In contrast to the beauty of it, the highlight of this trek is the formidable Larkya-La Pass (5,160m). This is not your average mountain pass but one demanding high level of stamina and determination. When you cross this particular pass, you will gain an unparalleled sense of satisfaction and confidence. Additionally you will be treated with rare unforgettable panoramic views of the Himalayan giants, being rewarded for your effort.

Trek Me Nepal encourages you to visit Manaslu region mainly in Autumn from September to November; and in Spring from March to May. While Spring brings mild temperatures and blooming rhododendron forests, in Autumn, you will have clear skies, a stable weather, and bewitching mountain views. Summers and Winters are not the favorable weather due to heavy rains and harsh cold conditions.

During the trek you will witness several hardships that people face daily in such remote lands. Small terraced fields are seen on sides of high hills where barley, wheat, and potatoes are grown. Yak herding is a part of people's income in these isolated lands, but the people are resilient. Despite the hardships, folks in these parts are hospitable and always keep a friendly smile for you.

When you're going through the valleys and rivers in Tsum, you will instantly be teleported back in time. This hidden valley is an epitome of solitude, as the region remains largely untouched by modernity. Very ancient monasteries like Rachen Gumba and Mu Gumba along with several smaller stupas are scattered throughout the landscape. Mani walls, time-worn chortens, and prayer wheels are common sights in villages. Prayer flags will be constantly fluttering in the mountain breeze, adding to the windswept nature of the place dotted with traditional stone houses and an old-world feel. The sound of sweeping winds will fill the air.

Such a contrasting experience is what you can expect in this journey. Contrast of landscapes, of lifestyles, of natural beauty and hardship, and above all, the resilience of the people when compared to easy modern life full of choices. These are the things you will witness here. In this program from Trek Me Nepal, you will have a little more understanding of Nepal's diverse Himalayan heritage. Book today with us for this once-in-a-lifetime experience — one that you will find nowhere else on the planet.

The trek from Chhokang Paro to Nile (pronounced Nee-lay) is mostly through a region known as "Upper Tsum Valley". As the altitude increases, take plenty of fluid to stay hydrated and tread lightly and steadily. Villages and farms dot sparsely on the trail, with magnificent views of mountains at several turns. Flat cultivated fields will open up to the gradually widening valley ahead. You might even encounter a Himalayan thar and grazing yaks while on your way to the village of Nile, the last village before heading north in the upper regions of Tsum valley. This area is marked by sparse vegetation, especially high-altitude grassland, but barren of trees and thickets. Nestled right under cliffs and a giant mountain on the north, Nile is ever-gazing at the views of Ganesh Himal in the south and Himalchuli in the west.

As excitement builds up, you will realise that it's a day of relaxation and enjoyment in this mountain village — with only short hikes for the sake of acclimatisation. And if you feel like it, you can take a second option — a longer challenge — where you reach Manaslu Base Camp. Get up at leisure, have breakfast, and set off towards Larkya Bazaar — a barren land with just a suspension bridge and pure green river flowing underneath. The word 'Bazaar', aka market, comes from the seasonal market this place hosts from time to time. Cross the bridge and head slowly and steadily past streams, ascending gradually along the way. After about four hours of challenging trek, you will arrive at Dharmashala, a picturesque campsite and an acclimatisation stop. Here, sights of the stunning Larkya Glacier will melt your heart.
