In this exciting 10-day program from Trek Me Nepal, you will hardly contain your enthusiasm as you begin your journey to the Everest region. From the moment when you land in Kathmandu, your anticipation will only increase in Kathmandu’s vibrant energy and rich culture.
This journey begins with a thrilling early-morning flight to the tarmac in Lukla, perched precariously on the mountainside. As the small plane glides through the mountains, you’ll be instantly awestruck by the sheer dominance of the Himalayan giants. When you land at the famous Tenzing-Hillary Airport, which is a sort of adventure in itself, you’ll see the Sherpa villages, a sight that is just a glimpse of what’s to come.
Once out of the airport and after a relaxed refreshment, you will set foot on the trail to Phakding. Suddenly immersed in a world of wonder, you won’t believe the sights that surround you. The crisp mountain air fills your lungs as you trek through lush pine forests and cross suspension bridges spanning gushing rivers down below. Each step that you take will feel like you’re walking inside a beautiful dream.
The prominent destination in this trekking program is arriving in Namche Bazaar. When you come to this mountain village, it’s like entering a movie set in a different realm. This bustling Sherpa village is nestled in a natural amphitheatre-like shape within towering peaks. With vibrance of life and colours everywhere, you will spend a day here acclimatising, exploring the narrow streets, and marvelling at the blend of traditional Sherpa culture and modern amenities. The excitement of first-time trekkers and stories of seasoned mountaineers will fill you with inspiration and fuel you for the journey ahead to Tengboche.
The trek to Tengboche is equally breathtaking – literally and figuratively! Literally, because the air gets thinner and you will have to take small steps to go anywhere; and figuratively, because you wouldn’t have imagined nature to be this beautiful on the planet! As you gradually ascend through forests of rhododendron and juniper, each turn in the path reveals new, awe-inspiring vistas. And then suddenly, one of the turns, you will see it there – your first clear view of Mount Everest. The hairs on the back of your hand will arise as you gaze upon the world’s highest peak, flanked by the imposing Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Nuptse! It’s a moment of beauty!
Arriving at Tengboche Monastery, perched high in the mountains, you will feel like a sanctuary in tandem with the heavens. The cosmic grandeur it seems to carry will be immediately felt, even from the distance. As seen in countless movies, this monastery sits quietly in the foreground. Intricate carvings on the walls, powerful chants of the monks, and fluttering prayer flags everywhere create an atmosphere of profound peace. The sense of spirituality that you find here will find yourself reflecting on the adventure you’re in. Needless to say, you will feel a deep connection to these mountains and appreciate Nature in this grand solitude.
On your way back, you’ll visit a monastery and become acquainted with the folklore rife with tales of Yeti. You’ll be further amazed by the skills of your guides and porters, and their knowledge of the land. As you fly back to Kathmandu, you’ll be filled with a mix of emotions — a sense of accomplishment plus longing to see more of this magical realm. More than just a hiking trip, this trek is a journey of self-discovery and getting connected with nature in its raw inspiring form. Later, when you are back at home, you will quietly understand that you have left a little part of yourself in these majestic mountains, and someday you will return for more.
