This journey to Langtang Valley is an exhilarating adventure taking you to the heart of Nepal's scenic beauty, majestic landscapes, and cultural diversity. Located right outside Kathmandu valley, Langtang is a vast wilderness that stretches up to the borders of Tibet bordered by the Langtang mountain range. This dynamic trek begins with a promise of breathtaking views and diverse natural ecosystems where you will encounter several ethnicities and villages full of incredible sights. The warm-hearted Tamang and Sherpa people are all-welcoming. This moderately-paced trek will satisfy your expectation of natural beauty at every step that you take in the serene beauty of the Langtang range.

A scenic drive of around seven hours from Kathmandu will bring you to Syabrubesi, the gateway to Langtang Valley. Winding through green hills and terraced paddies, you will have sights of rural life clad in simplicity. From Syabrubesi, you will feel the excitement building, making you ready to embark on this unforgettable trek. Traveling through beautiful rhododendron and bamboo forests, you will be engrossed by the sound of nature. The rustle of leaves in autumn, the flow of gentle streams, and the distant call of a bird, probably the lophophorus. Following the trail, you will trek ahead feeling invigorated and filling up your lungs with fresh crisp air.

As you gradually ascend on the trail, the landscape will begin to transform dramatically. In a matter of mere hours, towering peaks will begin to rise up in the sky, leaving behind the hilly valleys and highland pastures. As snow-capped peaks glisten in the majestic sunlight, you will know that you have arrived at the famed valley of Langtang. The resilient people of Langtang Valley practise a form of tradition that's reminiscent of a mix of Tibetan and Nepali culture. Here you will have your first proper traditional meal of the region.

In Kyanjin Gumba, a serene monastery located at 3,830 meters (12,566 feet), the trekking begins to grow challenging. While the high altitude can be tiring, you will have plenty of reasons to move ahead — including the alluring views of the white peaks. A habit of rising early for stunning panoramic views, will definitely be rewarded with prominent close-up vistas of Langtang and several other peaks. Surrounded by towering giants Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal, you will feel a profound and inspiring connection to Nature.Langtang Valley aka the "Valley of Glaciers" is exactly where you will encounter magnificent glaciers like Yala and Lirung. These ancient icy slopes are a feast for the senses - that will stand as a humbling reminder of your place in the vast world full of diversity.

If you happen to be here in spring, you will see a colorful field of rhododendrons blooming in shades of red and pink. Beautiful as it is, the trek does pose physical difficulties. The rugged trails will test your endurance. You will spend long days walking on paths through the wilderness. You will face a high-altitude trekking experience where your knees will hurt and muscles will beg for rest. But all of it only adds to the allure. The charm of the trek is that you will share the serenity with fellow trekkers. The bucolic beauty of the place will be etched in your memory long after the journey ends. The pure joy of conquering physical challenges in such an extraordinarily beautiful location is what makes this program special.

  •   Enjoy panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, glaciers, and valleys, with opportunities to explore Langtang Glacier.
  •   Stay in peaceful villages like Syabrubesi, Bamboo, and Ghodatabela, offering a glimpse into the lives of local communities, nestled in serene and untouched landscapes.

Today marks the beginning of the actual trek. You will begin from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel early, going through dense forests and sparse villages. Crossing the villages of Bamboo and Rimche, you will ascend along Langtang River. This section of the path is full of rhododendron bushes, old moss-clad oaken forests, and bamboo. Trekkers have reported sightings of wildlife such as the langur monkey, musk deer, and Himalayan pheasant. In about four hours, you will reach a hamlet called Lama Hotel where you'll be staying tonight. Nobody knows how this desolate hamlet in the middle of the dense forest came to be called Lama Hotel. There are neither Lamas here, nor is there any hotel. But legends tell of an old monk from long ago who meditated (and "lived" in a nearby cave aka "hotel") — hence colloquially "Lama's Hotel" or "Lama Hotel" being the name of this place. Views of cascading waterfalls and snow-capped peaks is what makes today's trek worthwhile.

After a quick breakfast in Lama Hotel, we will begin the day with a steep ascent through forests of rhododendron. First we will come to the village of Gumanechok where we'll have a brief stop to catch a breather. We will continue the climb to a place called Ghodatabela, named after a horse "stable" that probably used to be here in olden times. If not a proper stable, locals talk of a "shack" where traders used to tie & feed their horses, and spend the night. Along the road, you will have panoramic views of Mt. Langtang Lirung and see several other villages belonging to the Tamang. Suspension bridges, terraced lands, and cascading waterfalls are frequent in this region — opening up as the forest gets thin. Wide views of the Langtang Valley will mesmerize you against the towering Langtang Himal. Despite the challenges of today's steep path, you'll quickly get into bed at the first sight of a teahouse.

Wake up at leisure, have your breakfast, and begin the trek from Langtang Village. Today, the trek to Kyanjin Gumba is short but significant, mostly done for the purpose of acclimatization. As the path ascends gradually through yak pastures, you will pass carved stones and large Chortens. You will begin to notice that the terrain is getting more rugged by the hour. Higher up, the majestic peak of Langtang Lirung is seen looming in the background. Take a break and a brief lunch in Mundu, before continuing through sparse rhododendron bushes until you arrive at Kyanjin Gumba. Located at a whooping altitude of 3,830 meters, the village (named after the prominent monastery) is famed for beautiful views of snow-capped mountains. If you feel like it, you can visit the old cheese factory to sample some fresh yak cheese. Hop into a teahouse for the night inside this serene wilderness.

Wake up early to the sound of village folk and get ready for breakfast. Later on, you will begin a leisurely but challenging ascent to the peak of Tserko-Ri (4,984 m). Although called peak, it's actually a vantage point – the highest on this trek. Going along winding trails through yak pastures, you will reach the summit to witness a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of several peaks including Langtang Lirung and Kyanjin-Ri. This strenuous ascent is totally optional for today as you can trek to Kyanjin-Ri too, on the eastern side. If you choose to visit Tserko-Ri instead of Kyanjin-Ri, you will get an equally beautiful vistas of glaciers and peaks. Basking in the beauty, you will relax your muscles and get ready to head back to Kyanjin Gumba by late afternoon. Spend relaxing for the rest of the day in the quiet ambience of the monastery.

Today is the last day in Kyanjin. After an early breakfast, we will begin our descent to Lama Hotel. It's mostly downhill today – first through rhododendron forests and then through scenic villages and hamlets. Coming back to the hamlet of Ghodatabela, we will stop for lunch. Later, we will enjoy stunning views of the surrounding peaks and valleys as we descend further alongside Langtang River. The descent is mostly gradual, but at times you have to be careful as the steeps appear suddenly in a couple of places. After about seven hours of trekking, we will come to Lama Hotel in the middle of serenity. Here, we'll hop into a teahouse and call it a day.
