Jamacho, also known as Jalapadevi, is a hill located near the western part of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. The top of Jamacho hill hosts a Buddhist monastery known as Jamacho Gumba. How To Get There?

In the hills near Kathmandu, the Jamacho Hiking Trail beckons adventure seekers with its serene landscapes and spiritual allure. Before you set foot on the trail, it’s essential to know the best ways to reach the starting point.

The journey to Jamacho begins at the iconic Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple. This UNESCO World Heritage Site serves as the gateway to the hiking trail. Located on a hill to the west of Kathmandu, Swayambhunath is easily accessible by various modes of transportation.

Short Itinerary

Day 01 :
After a spiritual waking in the beautiful morning, we will take our departure towards our first destination Swayambhunath also known as the Trailhead. After that, we would start our hiking for the day. After hiking for nearly 3-4 hours we will encounter our second destination Jalapadevi. After a short break, picture clicking, and sightseeing we will hike for the next 2-3 hours which is the main destination of our hiking, “Jamacho Gumba”. Before descending we will get a peaceful view with some Snacks & rest. Moving along we will descend and conclude our hiking from the Trailhead, Swayambhunath Stupa.

Day 1

Morning Departure: 

Around 8:00 AM we will start our day from Kathmandu. If you’re staying in Thamel, you can also consider a brisk walk to Swayambhunath to kick-start your adventure.

Trailhead at Swayambhunath:

We will arrive at the  Swayambhunath Stupa at around 9 AM, the iconic Monkey Temple. This serves as the starting point for our Jamacho hike.

Ascent Begins

We will begin our ascent through the enchanting trails leading towards Jamacho. The journey offers glimpses of Kathmandu waking up.

Jalapadevi Encounter:

Along the way, we will encounter Jalapadevi Temple. You can take a moment to soak in the cultural richness and capture some photos.

Reaching Jamacho Gumba:

As we continue our ascent, and by late morning, reach the summit where Jamacho Gumba awaits. You can explore the Buddhist monastery and enjoy the panoramic views.

Lunch with a View:

You can also find a scenic spot for a packed lunch or you can eat something in the hotels and restaurants available there. As you take the launch, you can enjoy the breathtaking vistas of the Kathmandu Valley and the surrounding hills.

Descent Begins:

After launch and some rest, we will start our descent back to Swayambhunath. The downhill journey allows us to reflect on the beauty of the hike.

Return to Swayambhunath:

Around 4 PM we will arrive back at Swayambhunath Stupa where the journey started. You can spend some time around the stupa, observing the lively atmosphere.
