The journey to Jamacho begins at the iconic Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple. This UNESCO World Heritage Site serves as the gateway to the hiking trail. Located on a hill to the west of Kathmandu, Swayambhunath is easily accessible by various modes of transportation.
Around 8:00 AM we will start our day from Kathmandu. If you’re staying in Thamel, you can also consider a brisk walk to Swayambhunath to kick-start your adventure.
We will arrive at the Swayambhunath Stupa at around 9 AM, the iconic Monkey Temple. This serves as the starting point for our Jamacho hike.
We will begin our ascent through the enchanting trails leading towards Jamacho. The journey offers glimpses of Kathmandu waking up.
Along the way, we will encounter Jalapadevi Temple. You can take a moment to soak in the cultural richness and capture some photos.
As we continue our ascent, and by late morning, reach the summit where Jamacho Gumba awaits. You can explore the Buddhist monastery and enjoy the panoramic views.
You can also find a scenic spot for a packed lunch or you can eat something in the hotels and restaurants available there. As you take the launch, you can enjoy the breathtaking vistas of the Kathmandu Valley and the surrounding hills.
After launch and some rest, we will start our descent back to Swayambhunath. The downhill journey allows us to reflect on the beauty of the hike.
Around 4 PM we will arrive back at Swayambhunath Stupa where the journey started. You can spend some time around the stupa, observing the lively atmosphere.
